Meet the driver at your hotel in Rome, put your luggages in the car and start the tour heading to Orvieto. Your professional tour guide will be waiting in the center of the old town. With him you will reach the central Piazza della Repubblica and the old church of St. Andrea. A short walk and you will enter the medieval district, an area of charming little alleys and stone houses. From here you will get the edge of the city; from the top of the cliffs you will admire stunning views on the rolling hills covered with vineyards and olive trees. Walking along the ancient walls of Orvieto you will enjoy many points of view on the countryside and the brown coloured medieval town.
The next stop will be the cathedral and its amazing facade. Your guide will give you all the information about the mosaics, the sculptures and the history of the church before taking you inside the huge building. You will visit every part of the church, with a special focus on the beautiful San Brizio chapel, decorated by the reinassance artist Luca Signorelli. The visit of Assisi will start at the Basilica of St. Clare, a beautiful gothic style church located on a panoramic square overlooking the Umbrian valley. Walking through the picturesque pink-coloured alleys of Assisi You will reach Piazza del Comune, with the interesting Temple of Minerva, a memory of the roman city. Next to the square you will visit the birthplace of St Francis and the remains of the house where he lived the first part of his life. After an easy walk along the most beautiful streets of the city, you will reach the stunning Basilica of St-Francis, a masterpiece of medieval art and architecture. Inside the lower and upper churches you will admire some of the most important works of art of the XIII and XIV century, made by Giotto, Cimabue and many others great medieval artists. Here you will also have the chance to descend to the crypt to contemplate in silence the tomb of St. Francis.
