If by any chance you are in Rome in June between 22-24, and you truly want to breathe the real taste of hidden Italy, this is an unmissable experience!

Genzano is a typical Medieval hill town 30 km (18 miles about) away from Rome. It sits on the famed ancient Roman road, the via Appia. But this little town is basically famous because every year takes place the festival of flowers called Infiorata (the flowering), when the streets are strewn with blooms to celebrate Corpus Christi. Elaborate works of art are painstakingly created in the streets using petals, seeds, nuts, and wood shavings - all elements must come from the plant world. The colorful festival is a dazzling sight to behold.

Itinerary
Stop At:
Genzano
You will meet the english speaking driver at your centrally-located hotel in Rome and start travelling towards Genzano. It is a hilltop town 30 km Southwest of Rome and usually after 45 minutes driving you will reach this little village located in the Roman countryside. This place, beyond its local genuine food and popular wines, is best known for the Festival of flowers so-called "Infiorata", which take place every year and attracts thousands of visitors. Genzano’s Infiorata dates back to 1778 and is held every June on the Sunday of Corpus Domini. It covers about 2,000 m2, and consists of fifteen “flower panels” that use approximately 500,000 flowers, blooms and seeds. The Infiorata’s crowning moment is when the Corpus Domini procession passes down the centre of the large carpet of flowers. Afterwards, the festival comes to an exciting finish with what is known as the "spallamento": when children run down the staircase from the church of Santa Maria, undoing the flowered panels. This year, like almost every years since the 17th century, the main street in Genzano di Roma will be covered in petals for the traditional Infiorata. On the feast of Corpus Christi, the uphill street from Piazza IV Novembre to the Church of Santa Maria della Cima will turn into a colorful carpet of flowers. Over the course of its history, Genzano’s Infiorata has grown from a popular festival to an international event of art, culture and, above all, faith, attracting thousands of visitors from Italy and abroad every year. Before going back to Rome, you can have lunch(if you take the tour which depart at 8.30 am) or dinner (if you take the tour which depart at 3.30 pm) at a local trattoria, where you enjoy the renowned porchetta, home pasta and seasonal vegetables, while sampling some local wines.
