CAPPELLA ORSINI
The Renaissance in Rome is the triumph of light that hides shadows full of mystery. Lucrezia Borgia, daughter of Pope Alexander VI, is the symbol of this
contradiction. She spent many years in Rome, living for some time in the Palazzo Orsini wherein the Cappella Orsini its now ancient Chapel and the setting of our performance is located.
A woman with a legendary beauty, Lucrezia inspired the contrived and unwieldy gossip that led to her disdainful historical image as the poisoner. This show includes some lyrical arias of Lucrezia Borgia di Donizetti which were inspired by the biography of Victor Hugo. The story highlights some of her famous romances, and will shed new perspectives on the Pope's daughter. In our story one of the Pope's imaginary descendants retraces their legendary ancestor. The discovery of a missing letter introduces the occult mysteries of an era in which the "Acquetta dei Borgia" was considered one of the most insidious poisons in which the life of the powerful was subject to the intrigues between opposing factions. The bursting vocality of the melodrama is heightened and made more intriguing by the unexpected musical incursions and unusual costumes in a scenography full of surprises.
