In the 1st century A.D., this was the site of the Circus Agonalis, or competition arena. Built by Emperor Domitian for sporting events and chariot races, the arena was even larger then the Colosseum. The name “Agonalis” is believed to have changed to “N’agona” over the years, and eventually to present - day “Navo na.”
