What To Expect
Itinerary for Monday-Saturday tours:
Meet your guide and walk to the Campo de' Fiori, site of a popular morning food market (afternoon tours experience the relaxed atmosphere of this lovely piazza even without the market in full swing). Talk with some of the vendors, find out what's for sale and sample some of the goodies. Learn how the Romans do their grocery shopping. Sample local specialties, including pizza bianca (pizza without tomato sauce), fresh mozzarella cheese, cured meats, pasta and gelato.
Learn about the history of the area still known as the Jewish Ghetto. Hear about its status as a destination for food lovers in modern Rome. Visit Piazza delle Cinque Scole, stopping in shops for samples of things like fried artichokes, codfish and fried balls of risotto known as 'suppli.'
Continue on to the historic Trastevere neighborhood. Walk along streets lined with art galleries and vintage boutiques as your guide talks about this area's beloved cafes and bars. Taste some traditional Roman dishes.
Itinerary for Sunday tours:
Go to an Organic Market that is managed by the farmers whose goods are for sale inside. Enjoy a walk through little-known parts of Rome to visit the Jewish Ghetto and then the Trastevere neighborhood. Sample local specialties along the way as you learn about traditional Roman cuisine from your knowledgeable guide.
Please note: Sunday is the day when many shops are closed in Rome.
