Overview

this visit will show and explain different architectural models of ancient basilicas of early Christian days. The place where the churches are located is very quiet and you can enjoy a magical atmosphere. We visit St. Stefano rotondo church and St. Mary in Domnica, examples of simple but fascinating chapels. The mosaic decorations are really spectacular. In the Roman Houses you can enjoy ancient roman frescoes , in one of them you can see one the first representation of a christian praying . In St. Clement Basilica, we visit also the underground 3d level, a complex of roman houses or maybe the mint , with the secret Mithreum room, a sort of chapel, where in the past romans worshipped a foreign God from Persia.

this tour will intorduce you to an ancient roman house very well preserved, you will enjoy original roman frescoes. Walking through the celian hill, we stop at St.Stefano Rotondo church, a simple but spectacular basilica of the early christian period. We contnue to St. Mary in Domnica, to stop and enjoy a wonderful mosaic, and finally, we visit a four-story Basilica, St. Clement. This is a unique example of a church built up on different levels dating back from the impeial time to middle ages . The upper Church is decorated by superb mosaic in the apse. We will talk about the orign of the cross as christian symbol and the changes of it through the centuries . In the inferior basilica, there are important frscoes to see, legends of roman Saint , but the most fascinating part of the complex, is the roman structure , dating back the I a.C. where the mithreaum , a secret room is placed. threre, an ancestral divinity from Persia , Mitras, was worshipped and the catecumes consumed the sacred meal and celebrated the God . admission euro 8 per adult and 6 per chld. from 13 to 18 y.old
