Itinerary
Stop At:
Santa Cecilia in Trastevere
Under Santa Cecilia, located at a depth of several meters, there are the buildings from the Roman period transformed into a church in the early Christian age (4th-6th century AD), and later in the current great basilica. The church also contains two true masterpieces of medieval art: the apse mosaics, made during the ninth century. and the frescoes in the choir, painted by the painter Piero Cavallini in the mid-13th century
The second stop on the tour is the Basilica of Santa Maria In Trastevere, founded according to legend by Pope Callisto, in the 3rd century. It was completely rebuilt during the 12th century. and the apse was decorated with an extraordinary mosaic showing the Virgin and Christ on the throne. Recommended for lovers of archeology and the history of art.
