After having admired one of the most amazing squares of the eternal city, you will proceed to Circus Maximus: the huge ancient Roman stadium, originally used for horse-ricing. It is in the valley between the Aventine Hill and the Palatine Hill and it is 620 m (2037 ft) in length and 120 m (387 ft) in width. You will know it from Roman History because of the very famous Ratto delle Sabine (Rape of Sabine women), back in Romolo’s time, that took place in this stadium.

The Bocca della Verità (the Mouth of Truth) is an old manhole of 1632 with the form of marble mask, representing a bearded man. It is walled in the wall of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin and, according to the tradition, it is said that the Bocca della Verità eats the hand ones who lie. Your guide will tell you the history of this church and its Mouth of Truth: don’t forget to ask about the legend about the Unfaithful Wife.
