Our fascinating half-day tour incorporates the very best of Vatican City led by an expert tour guide. You’ll see the most famous attractions, including the Sistine Chapel, Saint Peter’s Basilica and Square, the collection of Ancient Roman and Greek statues, Raphael’s Rooms, the Galleries of Tapestries and Maps, and so much more! Your pre-booked tickets ensure you’ll avoid the long entrance queues to the Vatican.
This tour features some of the most treasured works of art and architecture of the Vatican, which make it such a special place. You will meet your guide at the entrance to the Museums, then you’ll bypass the queues with your pre-booked tickets. At this point, you may leave your belongings in the cloakroom if needed, and take a comfort break before the tour begins.
The first stop will be the vast collection of ancient Roman and Greek sculptures which have been uncovered through years of excavations across Rome. Your guide will point out the most significant, including the Belvedere Apollo, the Torso, the busts of Claudius and Hadrian and the sarcophagi of Helen and Constance, the mother and daughter of Emperor Constantine.
The Room of Animals and the Gallery of Candelabra is the next stop. You’ll walk along the rare Roman mosaics, and experience the magnificent statues of Diana of Ephesus, the Muses and a multitude of Greek philosophers.
The tour will then move through the Gallery of Tapestries, the Sobieski Hall, and Raphael’s Rooms. Once the private apartments of Pope Julius II, Raphael’s Rooms had been decorated by Raphael and include two of his most famous works, the Parnassus and The School of Athens.
The Sistine Chapel is, of course, the highlight of the Vatican, and Italy’s most popular attraction. Your guide will explain Michelangelo’s frescoes - The Last Judgment, the Creation of Adam and the Genesis, as well as the Stories of Moses and Jesus painted by Botticelli, Perugino and other renowned Renaissance artists.
The world’s most famous Catholic Church, Saint Peter’s Basilica, is next. Here you will view Michelangelo’s La Pietà, and the tombs of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II.
When you exit the Basilica, you’ll enter the vast expanse of Saint Peter’s Square. From here, you can see the chimney that is used to announce the election of a new pope, and Bernini’s recognizable statues. Your guide will wrap up the tour here, and leave you to explore the square at your leisure – a perfect end to a perfect tour of the Vatican!
