Walking Tour Of Rome Jewish Ghetto And Great Synagogue

Rome
Tour Rating 4.9
Overview

This is a must-see! The place where the Jews were once confined and which has now become the heart of the Jewish community in Rome. Grab the chance to visit the Jewish sites with a local official tour guide from the Jewish community of Rome, and do not be afraid to get in contact if you want to take the tour in the afternoon. Everything is slow and relaxed, and a stark contrast to the hectic lifestyle of the rest of the city. The lovely Rome Synagogue and Jewish Museum are also located here and constitute a fundamental chapter of Jewish history. On Shabbath we can give you the chance to have a nice guided stroll in the Jewish quarter as well, without visiting the museum and synagogue, so no entrance tickets to be paid, no hearing devices in this case. Jewish Ghetto of Rome-- not to be missed!

Visiting the Maggiore Synagogue and Museum Ebraica in the Jewish Ghetto in Rome was fantastic and a great way to spend an afternoon in Rome.So much beauty and history in this building with its mosaic, tile and gilt painted walls. Lovely neighborhood to wander and see evidence of a Jewish community dating to 20 CE. Eat Roman Jewish artichokes at one of the kosher cafes!
A trip through time and space

Walking in the footsteps of our common ancestors and being able to imagine what it looked like before the common era, during Napoleon's time, under various Popes, sitting and after WWI and WWII was amazing. Sara brings the past to life.
Very informative

Sarah was friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the history of the Jewish quarter. We learned so much about the history of the Jewish quarter.
Sara was the perfect guide for this tour

Sara was a wonderful guide. She grew up in and lives in the community and is very knowledgeable about its history. She's also very personable, and her English is great. Our only disappointment was the last-minute rescheduling of our tour from a 9 a.m. start to an 11:30 start. We were lucky our schedule could accommodate the change.
Unforgettable

Sara is an amazing tour guide. This was by far the best tour I have ever been on. She was patient and thorough, and being part of the Roman Jewish community herself, she was able to give me in depth knowledge about Roman Jewish history. I’m so glad I went on this tour and it was truly an amazing experience to learn from Sara about her community.
