Reviews for Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel Guided Tour
Total waste of money!
Autumn_W
The tour started 45 minutes late and we were not notified. We had another tour scheduled for after this one and it would have put us behind. The tour guide then told us that we could not see the Sistine Chapel unless we finished the entire tour with her (Clara). We had to leave the group and see the Sistine Chapel on our own so we didn’t miss our next tour. Total waste of money!
Not very engaging and skipped the Raphael frescos

The tour guide was pretty knowledgeable but not very engaging. He also skipped the Raphael frescos and spent time on the cars given to the pope as well as North American artifacts (why would I go to the Vatican from North America to see that?)
Extremely poor tour gide

We arrived early for our tour but the tour guide did not - the entire group waited in the lobby of the Vatican museum for over an hour. This caused us to miss the St Peters Basilica part of the tour since we had to hurry back to catch our cruise. :'( When he finally showed up, wearing a stained T-shirt with very odd graphics, he was rude and demeaning to various people throughout the tour. One couple with a stroller had to take an elevator (instead of following the group on the escalator), and he scolded them multiple times (going ON and ON instead of talking about the stuff he should have been talking about), telling them they need to 'learn how to take their baby on an escalator' and how he won't wait for them next time and blah blah blah. Another example - the large metal sculpture in the courtyard was spinning slowly, regarding which he said, either a 'weak man or a woman' must have spun it. Another example - When speaking about meters he said to the Americans in the group that it's 'not the same as yards but he can give us a calculator to figure it out since it's so hard for you to figure out.' There were multiple other examples. Everyone in the group was frustrated and insulted by him. Furthermore, although he could speak English, it was extremely difficult to understand and follow what he was saying. I took my headphone out less than halfway through the tour. He came off as extremely pompous.

Terrible experience, runnaway guide

Right at the entrance in the Vatican museum, after scaning the tickets and receiving the radio devices there is an elevator stair where many people are getting up, not only our group. Our guide did not wait for the group to reunite at the top of the stairs and started the tour without me and my family. When we got to the top he was out of sight. We could hear him on the radio but could not see him or his bandana strapped to a pole. There were three possible directions he could have gone and I have rushed in all of them until the radio would break out due to the distance. In two directions there were corners after corners so there was no way I could see his bandana. I got back to the stairs and called the tour company City Rome Tours to call the guide to call back. I have called six or seven times and got answers like: we gave your number to the guide to call you; go around by yourself until we reach him; how can we help if the guide is not answering. Eventually, the guide returned to the same place where we were just by luck because that was the itinerary and we could join the rest of the tour. I told the guide is not ok what he did but he pretended he did not understand the problem. I have paid for a guided tour of the Vativan and received only half. I did not try to get into an argument with City Rome Tours because I know they would just explain to me that I was stupid and I preferred to enjoy the rest of my vacation
