I believe the tour operator Italy Tour Tickets was essentially a reseller. We were randomly met by a supposed tour representative, no signage etc then escorted to join what was another tour group. Completely unprofessional. The other company did not expect us, they didn’t have headsets for us and scrambled to get them. Tour length was 45 minutes after waiting in line for 45 minutes. We were expecting a semi private tour and ended up in a group of 30.
The Guide was nice in the Coliseum- it was represented that we would have a guided forum -NO TOUR ,please refund me

I went into this tour with trepidation as there were very few tours to be had at the time I made it and this tour operator had only 2 reviews at the time with a total of 2.5 stars. I was pleasantly surprised and relieved that our tour organizer was accessible and responsive by WhatsApp, easy to find at the designated meeting spot ( crowded metro station kiosk) and took us to meet the rest of our tour group. We got our headsets, met our Colosseum tour guide, Omar, and the guide who would take us to Palatine Hill after the Colosseum tour, Steve. Even though you "skip the line" rest assured there is plenty of line standing as the groups also have to stand in line for their group tickets. It gives you a chance to stand in the shade and gawk at the amazing structure you are about to tour. Omar was funny and repetitive which hammered home some essential facts like 76 entrance for the common folk and 4 entrances for the VIPs, and other fun facts. Were I to do it again I would have booked months in advance and gotten the basement tour in addition to the upper levels. I really enjoyed exploring Palatine Hill and the Forum even though I was not armed well with all the history or an audio guide. Sometimes having a basic understanding and just looking up and around is good enough. I would do this tour again and I recommend it to others.

We showed up to the meeting point holding our printed instructions twenty minutes early. There were plenty of real guides holding names of the people they were going to escort through the Colosseum, but there was no sign of ours. At about ten minutes after, a man named Ali Hayam approached us and asked us what tour we were looking for. I showed him the paper and he then asked for me by name. He had a small list of names, many crossed off, in his hand. He said that there had been a problem: that our guide had not shown up and that the company had overbooked and he had no tickets for our allotted time. He then offered to sell us more expensive tickets–55 Euros each with NO guide–for a later entry time. We insisted that he refund our money (which we assume he did, we are having internet issues) and we bought "no guide" tickets through the tourist kiosk at the metro station.
I repeat: THIS TOUR IS A CON JOB. Why Viator would be involved with such a company is beyond us. Don't you vet the companies you advertise? WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!

The added time to just enjoy the colosseum privately was an added bonus.
