Day trip to Mt Vesuvius and Pompei

We did the archeological tour at mt Vesuvius and Pompei tour meeting at 7.30am and arriving back at 8.45pm (as the different tour lengths was unclear when booking). The drive up mt Vesuvius was great with beautiful views and so glad I wasn’t driving with the winding roads. The tour and explanation was good, then we stopped for lunch half way back down the mountain and was amazing for a tour lunch. Pompei was great to see but the tour guide explaining things went into a lot of detail for everything so got a little bored and stretched out too much. The main tour guide for the day was good but limited knowledge or information shared during the day.
Did the best they could

A very early start as it’s a long way.
Cutting to the chase, the guides were great and did the best they could in the time available.
I’d much rather just have had a trip to Pompeii and the Naples museum to see the artifacts and plaster casts of the people they found which are there.
Pozetano, is very pretty from a distance but pointless to be given 40 minutes to look around when it takes 10 to walk to the beach area and 10 to get served a glass of wine.
A 14 hour day of which at most 3 hours are visiting the sites.
A great day out

This was one of the best days of our holiday! We particularly loved going to Pompeii - our tour guide in Pompeii, Bernadette, was amazing and really informative (plus I appreciated that she helped us avoid the worst of the crowds in Pompeii). I've got to say a particular thanks to our guide for the day, Alberto, who not only was fantastic at making sure everything ran smoothly but also kept us entertained on the bus ride with facts and gave us tips of things to see and things to eat for the rest of our time in Rome. We'd debated arranging a day trip to Vesuvius and Pompeii ourselves, but I'm very glad we decided to book on this tour instead as it took all the stress out of the day.
The only thing I have to knock a point off for is that we'd booked for the geologist guided walk around Vesuvius, but through a logistical mistake ended up with a Vesuvius hike group. The hike was actually good fun though, and if you want to take it slowly then you can still get to the point of seeing into the crater and get back to the bus in time.
Such a brilliant day!!

Our family of 5 had a brilliant time. Jonathan our guide was excellent, he was funny and knowledgeable and we all learnt so much. He had great tips and tricks as well about both the places on our tour as well as more generally on Rome and Italy.
Pompei was great and although we didn't have a long time our guide Lilia was able to avoid the masses of people and take us to quieter areas as well as show us the more popular things. She was also very knowledgeable.
Our pizza lunch was so yummy and helped fuel us up to the top of Vesuvius which was a hard slog but totally worth it. The views of both the crater and off to the bay of Naples were fantastic, such a great experience and again Jonathan was a great guide who answered all our questions.
Thank you for a great experience, we would highly recommend!!
Not Really A Day Trip top Pompeii As Advertised

The tour is advertised as a "Pompeii Day Trip". The reason we purchased was to visit Pompeii. We had an option of returning by Vesuvius (climb) or Positano. What actually happened was that the tour departed at 07:15 and did not arrive in Pompeii till around 16:30. We had a very cursory quick tour of Pompeii by a local guide who wasnt really interested at all. The trip to/from Positano took most of the day - not helped by traffic, tourists and the shuttle buses being unreliable re pickup time. Our actual tour guide - Angelina - was the only positive about the day. We have done a lot of Viator tours - this would be the worst.
