Overview
Garbatella is a neighborhood with unique architecture in the world: born as a popular suburb in the 1920s, over the decades it has been able to maintain its authentic and combative soul while becoming, at the same time, a young and vital place. The style of the palaces (built in the so-called Roman baroque style), the courtyards that suddenly open when least expected), the narrow streets full of greenery, the urban vegetable gardens, the small cafés in the squares, the plaques to the partisans, the catacombs: all these elements contribute to making it one of the still authentic places in Rome. During the guided tour, which I customize according to people's needs/requests, I will talk about the origins of Garbatella and its history, we will visit the most important buildings, the urban vegetable gardens, the historical cultural circles to arrive at the Casetta Rossa, home to a social/cultural association where, whoever wishes, can conclude the tour with a coffee/glass of wine.
