Overview

We promise that this visit of the Catacombs of San Calistus will be an unforgettable spiritual experience. Finally we will enter to the catacombs with specialized guide. The first thing we’re going to encounter is a staircase, it can be up to 12 meters underground, and at the bottom of it are corridors that are forged in numerous directions. They are most commonly 4km long,and only so wide that 2 undertakers carrying coffins carrying the deceased could miss each other. It is important to note that both pagan traditions and superstitions have found their place in early Christians, so items such as toys, coins, objects from the ivory, bells, silver and gold foils, and lamps, as well as dishes for food and drink. The deceased was buried necked after a ritual bath wrapped in a white canvas. It will be unique oportunuty to learn about habits and traditions of the first christians. This tour will offer You a perspective of the Christian Rome that you won’t experience in the city center.

The description of this tour is very misleading. The actual tour was outstanding and very informative, but you are simply paying for transportation. The entry fee (EUR10 per person) was covered, but that's the extent of the "Rome Tour Srls' involvement. The operator is not the "guided tour provider" as the description of "what's included" implies. The driver was nice and picked us up at our hotel and dropped us off at our next tour, but honestly, we could have taken a taxis and saved $230!! Take my advice, don't book this through the provider; arrange transportation and purchase your tickets at the entry point of the tour.

I truly enjoyed this tour. Catacombs are unique experience and i would definitely recommend. Learning about first Christian believers and history was an amazing experience.
