Description
On a fateful summer's day in 79AD, Mt Vesuvius erupted, spewing volcanic ash over the village of Pompeii. Unaware of the imminent danger, most people continued on with their daily lives and as a result the entire town and around 20,000 of its inhabitants were buried under tons of ash and pumice.
Almost 2000 years later, you have the opportunity to explore the preserved ruins of this famous disaster. Your guide will show you fascinating places such as The Forum, Thermal Baths and Lupanare. Before returning to Rome, you'll have a break for lunch with pizza&drink.

The stories and facts about the life and the spaces people lived. The guide was very knowledgeable. Really enjoyed the history, but would have liked more time for me to explore, but we did not have that. I noted spaces we did not see and where others were walking, but we did not and there was no time.
Ignore the last review. It's brilliant!

I'm unsure what the previous review was expecting when booking a day trip from Rome to Pompeii. Unless they were under the impression that the tour operator had invented a machine to teleport them, a simple Google search prior to booking to check the distance between locations would have suggested the time it takes each way. I'd urge you to take their poor rating with a pinch of salt. This trip was the highlight of our trip to Rome and I would fully recommend it.
The transport sets off at 07.30 from Rome, stopping one time for 15 minutes and arriving at around 10.30. We had some free time to buy water, food, go to the toilet etc at the entrance of the park before meeting with the tour guide to get our headsets. The shops at the entrance to the park are expensive, so I'd suggest bringing things with you if you don't want to pay high prices. We bought a sandwich and orange juice which was €12.
The tour of the archeological park was amazing. We did the English tour and the guide was informative and funny. Starting around 11.10, lasting just over two hours with around 15 minutes spare time to take photos in the main square of Pompeii, where you can see Mount Vesuvius in the background. You then leave the park, so the previous review is correct in the sense that there is no free time to explore the city yourselves, however, we felt that more time exploring the city ourselves wouldn't have given us any more insight or knowledge that hadn't already been covered on the tour. When the bus driver drops you off, he tells you when and where he will pick you up, for us it was 2.30 at the same place he drops you off, so if having no free time to explore yourself if a deal breaker then it in theory would be possible to hand the headset back to the guide, split off from the group before leaving the park, skip the lunch and have the additional hour or so in the park, although nobody on our tour did this.
Ths restaurant for lunch is just across the road from the entrance to the park. The pizza was good, not outatanding but certainly not bad, photo attached, and included is water and Coca-Cola.
The bus back started at 2.30 and we did not stop at all, although the driver said if somebody needed to then we could just tell him. The bus is indeed cold in the morning journey as the aircon is on and the temperature is cooler, but is lovely in the afternoon when you need it. We arrived back at 17.10.
Overall, although it's a long day it was the best site seeing of our trip and we are so happy we booked!

Loved our Informative and humorous tour guide. Lunch was a bit chaotic would be my only complaint but so handy to be able to day trip from time to see Pompeii ruins.
Very good Guide - cold vehicle - long transfer and many breaks

Evaluating the Rome to Pompeii day trip is not easy!
First of all, all the announced features were adhered to: audio headphones, pizza and drinks were ok, express access and accompaniment by a guide were very good. But the transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle was bad!
We started at 7:30 a.m. and were back at the meeting point at around 5:15 p.m.
The 10 hours were divided as follows:
- 3.5 hour journey in an ice-cold bus - the air conditioning and ventilation were turned up to maximum, and it was 15 degrees outside! With a 45 minute break in the middle!
- 0.5+ hours before the tour: preparation and toilet
- less than 2 hours: Very good tour of Pompeii – BUT no time to look there yourself. You were led out and had to leave the park.
- 1 hour pizza in the restaurant.
- 3 hour return trip and again with a break and an ice-cold bus
If you sum it up:
+ Very good guide and good tour in Pompeii
+ Lunch break and food was good
! 7 hour bus ride, breaks and toilet – is too much. And no way to look around Pompeii yourself.
But what annoyed us most was that the bus driver didn't want to/couldn't turn down the air conditioning and ventilation, even though more than 10 participants repeatedly requested it. Half of us were sick 2 days later - we can only assume the bus ride had something to do with it.
We wouldn't do it like that again!
You should still visit Pompeii, preferably with a guide. You can also take the express train from Rome and organize everything yourself!

Pompeii was a not to be missed experience. Our guide Francesca provided the historical back drop to one of the greatest natural disasters and preserved historical landmarks in the ancient world. A wonderful day with lasting memories to share.
