The Vatican

When I first arrived in Rome I had my heart set on seeing the Coliseum. However, by the end of the trip it was the Vatican that really left an impression on me. Our specific tour focused primarily on the artwork. The art itself was astonishing, and it almost psychedelic in the way it impressed itself upon me during my visit. Our tour guide, Luigi, was excellent. He gave us a lot of context regarding the symbolic and aesthetic elements used in each piece, as well as how these things were framed by the architecture itself. By the end of the tour you feel almost overwhelmed by your surroundings. St.Peter's Basilica was especially impressive. As a Christian I found it both inspiring and humbling. The only thing I can really complain about is that I wish the floors were less troublesome to walk on for the entire length of the tour.
