What To Expect
Your winery tour from Rome starts with hotel pickup for the drive out of the city and into Castelli Romani, a Lazio wine region home to several villages in the scenic Alban Hills, where green valleys and volcanic lakes offer a lovely respite from the bustling Eternal City.
Pass by villages like Frascati and Grottaferrata on your way to Monte Porzio Catone, where you’ll arrive at Santa Benedetta, one of the region’s oldest wineries. Take a tour of the rustic estate, learning about its history, including its former days as a convent. Hear about the winemaking traditions of the Beneditti family, and then enjoy a wine tasting that includes three Santa Benedetta wines: tre vecchie, gigi and complexus. Along with the wine, you can snack on a plate of regional specialties—extra virgin olive oil from the winery, cheese, cured meats and pane di Lariano, a crusty bread.
The 1st white wine will be served with bruschetta and olive oil.
The 2nd white wine is served with panzanella (traditional dish with bread and tomatoes), followed by the 3rd white wine: served with pecorino cheese and salami. Biscuits are offered at the end.
After your relaxing time at the winery, your tour ends with the return drive to Rome for hotel drop-off.
