An elegant church of a renownd district,Trastevere. In the roman time, it was the 14th region of Rome, Transtiberim, which included the Janiculum hill and the Vatican which was kept outside the wall boundary. Thanks to the loop in the river and the great availability of water, many crafts, such us leather curing, were practised. The area was full of mills, baths, fields and temples and the ample spaces available allowed buildings development with numerous public housing constructions. Tradition indicates that it was in one of these homes that Cecilia lived it on its foundation that the Basilica was builit.
