The Construction of the Colosseum began under the rule of the Emperor Vespasian in 72 A.D. and was completed in 80 A.D. by Titus. It was built as a stadium for ceremonies and other spectacles and was represented a great triumphal monument celebrating great Roman victories. The Colosseum suffered extensive damage over the centuries by the great fire, which destroyed the wooden upper levels of the amphitheatre's interior and strong earthquakes in 1349 A.D. Over 500,000 people and over a million wild animals died in the Colosseum. On July 7, 2007 , the Colosseum was voted as one of New Seven Wonders of the World.
