Spend a full day on an in-depth exploratory tour of Paestrum and Pompeii from Rome. With round-trip transportation from your hotel in Rome, you can focus on the scenery during the ride instead of driving and directions. The day's first stop is Paestrum, where you'll follow your guide around the ancient ruins, learning lots more through commentary than you would simply exploring on your own. In Pompeii, stop for lunch (own expense) and spend some time seeing the ruins created by the ancient volcanic eruption.

Archaeological Park of Paestum
Paestum was a major ancient Greek city on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea in Magna Graecia. The ruins of Paestum are famous for their three ancient Greek temples in the Doric order, dating from about 600 to 450 BC, which are in a very good state of preservation.
Pompeii along with Herculaneum and many villas in the surrounding area was buried under 4 to 6 m (13 to 20 ft) of volcanic ash and pumice in the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79.
Largely preserved under the ash, the excavated city offers a unique snapshot of Roman life, frozen at the moment it was buried and providing an extraordinarily detailed insight into the everyday life of its inhabitants.
