Found in one of Rome's "modern squares" the fountain features four water Nymphs (Najadi). In Greek mythology, Naiads are a type of female spirit, presiding over fountains, wells, springs, streams, brooks and other bodies of freshwater. At its unveiling, the fountain created quite a scandal due to the perceived lucidius nature of the statues.
