A small journey into history about 30 km from Rome that will take you to discover wonderful villas in the enchanting city of Tivoli. Before arriving in the city we will find Villa Adriana the largest, the archaeological villa of Emperor Hadrian, testimony to the extraordinary level of Roman architecture. In the city you will be enchanted by the spectacular Villa d'Este, famous for its artistic wonders and, in particular for the numerous water games that transport visitors to a world of past eras. The splendid scenery that this suggestive area offers has been a favorite destination for poets, painters and wealthy aristocrats who have reached it as a stop on the famous "Grand tour" since the 19th century, a fascinating journey through archeology, history, places of worship and naturalistic landscapes in Tivoli that you don't expect; cultivated by the love of its citizens and appreciated over the centuries by tourists and lovers of natural beauty. Both villas are Unesco heritage

Reviews for Tour to Tivoli, villa d’Este, half day from Rome
STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS TOUR GROUP!!!

STAY AWAY FROM THIS TOUR GROUP! Confirmed time and hotel pick up for this tour-7:30 AM. They never showed!!! Never answered our phone calls, nor aviator’s. No answer to texts, emails, or messages through Viator site. Received a phone call at 9AM saying driver was stuck in traffic all morning (a lie), could pick us up at place we walked to in 10 minutes. Then received a call saying he was in traffic (again?) and would get us at 10 AM. At 10, we were picked up by a driver (not a tour guide) who spoke no English (booked an English speaking tour). Drove us up to Villa D’Este while smoking in the car (myself and friend allergic to smoke), didn’t know where to buy tickets and had to ask a local, then had ticket agent translate to be finished in 2 hours so he didn’t have to pay for extra parking. Only walked the grounds with no tour guide, had to rush back, driver still smoking in car. Was the worst experience of any Viator tour we’ve ever booked over the last 10 years. And now they are trying to charge us for entire tour! We are fighting through Amex to not pay a dime!
Would not recommend

Horrible experience. We did not get an English speaking trivet. We did not get a tour guide. The fountains were not running.

On late notice booked half day prior to tour limited options.
Very good driver but misread tour description that both Villas were to be visited, turned out only villa d'este but not villa Adriana - which was only 20min apart.
Despite mention about Tivoli in the description, only 1 stop was made outside of villa d'este and after driver walked to entrance and paid for admission, allowed 2hrs and upon return, drove back to Rome.
Given covid, preference was for a private trip and for $240/person, could have taken uber for around $125 round trip and even with taxi to villa Adriana, would have gotten off with much less.
Not blaming driver but tour operator description should be improved.
Beautiful Villa NearRome

Tivoli villa has beautiful gardens and fountains. It was nice to get out of the city and see some of the country side. After visiting the villa it is clear why they are a UNESCO world heritage site. The self guided tour provided by the villa was sufficient to understand and gain appreciation for the villa. Tivoli is very cute and fun to walk around as well. I recommend this trip to those who want to see more of the area outside of Rome.

My tour was cancelled last minute and the local tour did not bother to call, email or even notify us about it. I had to call them and confirm about the pick up time, etc as well. There wasn't any tour guide to help us around and our driver that picked us up did not speak English. This private tour is poorly coordinated and I would not recommend this to anyone.
